While their own West Virginia-inspired originals are always a highlight, the couple easily traverse a wide range of traditional Celtic and American folk music, infusing it with rich vocal harmonies and their own special reverence for the music and a maturity that comes from over 2 decades of marriage, family and performing. The Pitzers also perform as part of the exciting Celtic-Appalachian quartet Wolf Creek Session.
Keith & Joan Pitzer embody the experience of Appalachian life in contemporary surroundings. From the beginning they made a commitment to perform the music they love where traditional and contemporary styles meet with honest down-to-earth lyrics- from original songs to traditional Appalachian tunes to Celtic roots music. Its this combination that captures the heart and soul of their performance. As much a poet as a lyricist, Keiths lyrics convey both the irony and introspective nature of his view of the world. With their tight well-blended harmonies accompanied by Keiths unique guitar style, harmonica and an occasional mandolin and Joans simple but solid foundation on bass and occasional penny whistle, their music takes you on a spellbinding journey through an emotional landscape celebrating a deep connection with nature and the places, people and times they have known."Bringing all the complexities of modern Appalachia to life with beauty and grace, excellent guitar work and delightfully woven vocals that can only come from knowing each other's souls."
