Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkins

Saturday, May 12, 7:30 p.m.

Acoustic Alternative Folk

Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin each have brand new releases on the acclaimed folk label, Red House. Danny Schmidt has been building an enthusiastic (nearly cult-like) following while simultaneously inspiring the admiration of his fellow artists and critical acclaim from industry professionals. He is the real deal, an authentic timeless troubadour-poet in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Dave Carter, who delivers his craft with a quiet power, a level of complexity, and an underlying humanity that is truly rare.

With the vocal fire of Patti Griffin and the lyrical rawness of Rickie Lee Jones, Carrie Elkin's songs are, at once, intimate yet universal, naked yet richly adorned.

Danny and Carrie's joint shows are a revelation. They accompany each other on stage and the musical and personal chemistry is spectacular.

about Danny:

"The songs are fascinating and intriguing, even mysterious. The singing is warm and unassuming, letting the stories lead him. The melodies are captivating. And the writer is gifted. Go find Danny Schmidt and listen."- Marilyn Rea Beyer, WUMB Radio Boston

about Carrie:

"I have never seen a performer so in love with the act of singing. That's the gospel truth, and from what I've subsequently learned I'm not the only one to believe or state that. Onstage Elkin was simply a force of nature..." Arthur Wood, Folkwax

about Danny:

"In today's underground folk world, Danny Schmidt is spoken of in reverent tones, drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, with a poetry that breathes naturally and without pretension, with results that are both attractive and intense."- Jim Caligiuri, Austin Chronicle

"Everything about the man is gentle, except his capacity for insight, which is crushing."- Songwriter Jeffrey Foucault
