June 6, Thursday, 7:30 p.m. TEADA, Traditional Band from Ireland in concert. Open to the Public and Free of Charge. Donations accepted

June 25, Tuesday, 12:15-1:30, Thai Cooking with Montana Heim, demonstration, recipes and samples of Thai cooking. Limited to 20 individuals. Free of charge, Suggested donation of $3.00.

July 17-July 23 Sixth Annual Quilt Show, during normal library hours. Sponsored the The Friends of the Bedford Public Library, Inc. and The Peaks and Pieces Quilt Guild. Demonstrations on Saturday, July 20 in the Bedford Room.

July 27, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Jazz and Blues Concert with Barbara Martin. Free of charge, donations accepted. Sassy jazz and blues with Barbara Martin and guitarist Mack Walter.

September 10 - October 23, N.Y.C. after 9/11: Innocence Lost with collage and photography by Steve and Lucia Coates.

October 6, Sunday 7:30 p.m. Concert with folk singer/songwriters Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen.

Royce Campbell, Jazz Guitarist in Concert

For the Bedford Library System's 102 Birthday Celebration at Central Library at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will be held in the main library, not the Bedford Room, to accommodate more people.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for the public to meet the new Director of the Bedford Library System, Peggy Bias. The concert and refreshments are provided courtesy of the Friends of the Bedford Public Library, Inc. and the public is invited to attend without charge. Don’t miss the party!
Guitarist Royce Campbell has recorded 13 CD’s, performed for 19 years with Henry Mancini, toured with Marvin Gaye, and is the current Guitarist for the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. He took up the guitar at the age of 9 and has performed professionally since 1969. Royce Campbell has performed in Europe, Australia and has toured Japan nine times as a soloist. He has also performed with many Jazz Greats such as Mel Torme, James Moody, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Jack McDuff, Dave Brubeck, Cleo Laine, Eddie Harris and Mose Allison. Critics write:

Gingerbread House Competition

and Exhibit

The Friends of the Bedford Public Library, Inc. invite all bakers, young and old, professional and amateur to create a Gingerbread House for the Gingerbread House Contest and Exhibit 2002 to be held this December. The Contest and Exhibit will be housed at Bedford Central Library with entries being delivered on Thursday, December 5, from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. There is a $3.00 entry fee for each Gingerbread House, with a limit of two entries per participant. Judging will take place between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. the same day.
The Gingerbread Houses will remain on exhibit from December 5 through the holiday season. The Ginger Bread Houses may be picked up on Thursday, January 2, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Rules and entry forms are available at Bedford Central Library, branch libraries of the Bedford System, and on-line at www.friendsofbedfordlibrary.org.
Entry Categories are limited to: Under age 10, Ages 10-15, Adult, Professional (restaurant or bakery), Home Economics/ School Classes, and Group Design (Clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts jointly constructing a Gingerbread House) . First Prize of $25, Second Prize of $15, and Third Prize of $10 will be awarded in each of the six categories. A $50 prize of Best in Show will also be awarded.
The entries will be judged on Degree of Difficulty, Craftsmanship, Thematic Consistency, Creativity and Originality.
If participants would like to they may donate their Gingerbread House to the Friends of the Library for a Silent Auction of donated Gingerbread Houses which will continue through the holiday exhibit. The public is invited to bid on those lovely creations which are tagged for the Auction. Winners will be notified at the conclusion of the exhibit. Money raised by this Auction will benefit Bedford Central Library. Gingerbread Houses stored in a dry location away from temperature extremes will last for years. The Friends of the Bedford Public Library's Ninth Annual Cookie Sale

The Friends of the Bedford Public Library, Inc. will hold their Ninth Annual Holiday Cookie Sale on Friday, December 6, 2002. Each two pound box of delicious, beautifully decorated homemade cookies is reasonably priced at $12.00.
These delectable treats are in limited supply, so please order early. To order your cookies please call 586-3075.
Pick-up will be on December 6 between 3-6 p.m. in the Bedford Room of Bedford Central Library. Proceeds will benefit Bedford Central Library.
Those individual who are interested in baking cookies for the Friends’ Cookie Sale are asked to call 586-1747. Please volunteer to help the Friends support Bedford Central Library. The Friends have donated over $115,000 to date, with over $15,000 being donated annually over the past several years. For information on becoming a member of the Friends, please call 586-2194.

Beggar's Circus in Concert - Celtic Music

Join the Friends in the Bedford Room as we host this exciting trio who specialize in the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and related European regions. Instrumention includes fiddle, tin whistle, Irish flute, hammer dulcimer, concertina, guitar and bodhran. After playing together for five years the band has matured its sound: upbeat, yes and well arranged, but with a sense of urgency and a vein or dark humor. The release of their first CD, Peddling Bedlam created a strong regional following for them. Please welcome to Bedford Mary Beth Coffey on fiddle, Michelle Lawrence-Walker on hammer dulcimer, concertina, flute and whistle, and Tim Summers on guitar and percussion.

Open to the Public and Free of Charge. Donations accepted. Refreshments will be served during intermission.
